Below are upcoming scholarship application deadlines for multiple universities who provide opportunities for refugee students. Find out more about the program-specific application processes by clicking on the respective links. The listed deadlines are from March to May 2020.

Regina Salve University

Scholarship for Syrian Students

Application Deadline: March 15

As part of the Institute of International Education PEER/Syria Consortium, a full-tuition scholarship is offered to one Syrian citizen whose education has been interrupted or impacted by the crisis in Syria. The University also offers a range of partial merit scholarships to eligible students.

Tu Dortmund University

Language Program

Application Deadline: March 15–31

TU Dortmund University provides funds for German language courses offered by cooperating language schools which prepare refugees for their future studies. These scholarships are tailored for refugee students who would like to build their German language speaking skills and are part of a project framework of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) and financed by funds from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKW).

Kingston University

Sanctuary Scholarships

Application Deadline: March 16

Kingston University supports STAR’s Equal Access University Scholarships for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the UK project to promote access to higher education for people who have fled persecution and sought asylum. Applicants must have submitted an application to study at Kingston University for the forthcoming academic year before the Sanctuary Scholarship application can be considered.

University of the People

Application Deadline: March 19 (regular admission); May 7 (early admission); May 28 (regular admission)

Scholarships for Syrian Refugees

The University of the People (UoPeople) is a tuition-free, non-profit institution. This scholarship covers course assessment fees towards an undergraduate or graduate degree, and is available to applicants who were born in Syria. Current applicants must be residing in Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, or Jordan.

Emergency Refugee Assistance Scholarship Fund

The University of the People (UoPeople) offers an emergency refugee assistance scholarship for refugee students and asylum-seekers who are interested in earning an accredited American degree online but are financially restricted to do so. This scholarship is available to all students globally who identify as a refugee or asylum-seeker. Students at UoPeople will be able to study at their current geographical location and receive funding through UoPeople.

De Montfort University

Article 26 Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 20

DMU offers eight Article 26 Scholarships for students to cover their tuition costs. The Article 26 Scholarship consists of a full fee waiver for the duration of the course plus a £3,500 contribution towards living costs per year.

Royal Holloway University of London

Sanctuary Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 26

Royal Holloway University aims to promote access to Higher Education for students who have fled persecution and sought asylum in the UK. One scholarship is available each year to new eligible undergraduates in any subject. The scholarship is offered as a full tuition fee reduction, available for three years of study.

Aga Khan Foundation

International Scholarship Programme

Application Deadline: March 31

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique.

Winchester University

Sanctuary Award

Application Deadline: April 24

The Sanctuary Award supports up to five students per year seeking sanctuary in the UK to undertake a course in higher education. Winchester University will cover your fees and also help with additional costs with a bursary of up to £3000 per year. Applicants must be seeking asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK, or a dependent or partner of someone seeking asylum or be a dependent or partner of someone who has been granted limited leave to remain or some other form of temporary status.

University of Luxembourg

Cedies Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 30

Scholarships are available for refugee applicants to the University of Luxembourg. This program applies to both Bachelor’s and Master’s students currently residing in Luxembourg. Applicants must first be accepted to the university before applying for the scholarship.

Edge Hill University

Sanctuary Award

Application Deadline: April 30

This program enables undergraduate students, who are asylum seekers or hold Limited Leave to Remain in the United Kingdom to pursue an undergraduate degree at Edge Hill University. Edge Hill University provides a support package for two eligible individuals at any one time to help them achieve their Higher Education goals. This is in the form of a tuition fee waiver plus an additional £800 scholarship.

University of Strathclyde

Asylum Seeker Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 29

The scholarship is open to prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Strathclyde and is intended to help Asylum Seekers and those staying in the UK on humanitarian grounds to overcome barriers in progressing to higher education. The scholarship meets the cost of tuition fees and includes an allowance for essential study-related expenditure.
